OrphanCARE

Hi everyone,

I was privileged recently to have been able to photograph the launch & fund-raising gala dinner of OrphanCARE at the KL Convention Centre. OrphanCARE's patron HRH Sultanah Pahang, Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom gave the welcoming address while Jermaine Jackson from the Jackson 5 pleasantly surprised guests with an impromptu speech in support of OrphanCARE.

Here is what OrphanCARE is all about in their own words:

We are a one stop non-profit organization which aims to give every orphan and abandoned baby a loving family. Orphanages should be viewed as a transit house for orphans for immediate adoption. We aim to assist orphans/families while coordinating and working with the government in the adoption process.

Help us change society's mindset towards orphans, recognising that children should not be left permanently in orphanages. It is a 'transit point' before orphans are placed with families who can bring them up in a proper family structure.

We aim to construct/compile a database of Malaysian orphans and interested adoptive families in order to match the orphans with suitable families.
  • Provide pre and post adoption counseling for both the child and the adoptive family.
  • Continuously monitor the situation to ensure smooth and efficient adoption in the best interest of the child.
Facts about orphans around the world:

In 2001, there were more than 65 million orphans in Asia. Africa has the greatest proportion of children who are orphans, by 2010 the number will reach 42 million. In China, 4 million girls are orphans.

In the world today it is estimated that there are 143 million orphans without families. If they were to hold hands together they would encircle the world twice! That's almost 6 times the population of Malaysia. Close to half a million orphans remain in orphanages in Malaysia today.

About 100 babies are abandoned yearly in Malaysia, mostly unreported...........
MAKE THE CHANGE

Quran: Surah Al-Baqara (The Cow)

2:215 The ask you (O Muhammad pbuh) what they should spend. Say "Whatever you spend of good must be for parents and kindred and orphans and the poor and the wayfarers, and whatever you do of good deeds, truly, Allah knows it well."

FAQ - Adopting Children

Q: Is adoption encouraged in Islam?
A: Adoption where the biological parents real identity is concealed and the adoptive parents identify themselves as the birth parents of the adopted child, is prohibited in Islam. However, adoption, where the child knows that you are not the biological parents, is highly recommended in Islam.

Thank you for asking and God knows best.
